I’ve been trying out new methods to combat my art rut as of lately and my new favorite (and most effective) exercise by far is to doodle my ideas and thoughts in my sketchbook. It kind of acts as a sandbox mode to test out how I feel about different ideas and styles without feeling pressure or vulnerability about whatever it is I end up drawing. Even on the days when I’m absolutely uninspired, I mess around and draw nonsense just to keep my skills sharp.
I’m going to start sharing my sketchbook pages with you here and I also would love to hear how you get yourself out of the various life ruts we all encounter. I think no matter who you are, in life, we all need a “sketchbook”. A place where it’s okay to try and fail.
