About Me

Ok, so you’re probably wondering to yourself, “Self, what is this cute little page all about?”. Well, I’ll tell you!

Rockin Mom’s World is my little melting pot that consists of all of the following things-

Mom Life (ya know, like “thug life” but mom style)- Art- Autism- Going Green – Natural Health- DIY- Beauty Tips- Laughs- Life Hacks- Random Adventures- Product Reviews- Giveaways

Basically, my intention is to post the kind of content that makes you learn or feel something. I tend to write about serious, true to real life things, but with a side of silly nonsense to balance it all out.

Well, I may as well start out by being honest right? I hate these about me things. Actually, I completely and utterly loathe them. How in the hell am I supposed to sum up who I am as a person with some text and a couple pictures?! It just ain’t gonna happen peeps, but just for you guys I’m gonna at least give it a shot..well, the relevant parts anyways so HERE WE GO!

I’m known as “Mom” or “Moooooooooom!” to the most awesome teenager in the world, my little Bug. He’s not so little anymore, he actually towers over me, but anywho!! He is 16 years old and is a HARD CORE gamer. I mean, this shit is serious! He used to be my little partner in crime, stuck to me like glue, but nowadays he thinks I am as lame as they come and he is absolutely mortified and embarrassed by my very existence and everything I say and do. And he recently told me that for the record, he absolutely hates that I call him Bug. Boy, teenagers are fun. I talk a lot about him and all the funny things he says on my Facebook Page.

I’ve been obsessed with art, fashion, music since my early childhood. I’m a “Jill of all trades” and an artist with ever-changing mediums. I paint, draw, write, sew, crotchet, & refinish furniture as well as making jewelry, candles, soap, lotions, lip balm, fondant cakes, cupcakes and whatever else I can find to get into. Basically, how it goes is- 1. I see something that inspires me. 2. I run with it.

For the past several years I’ve been trying to make at least one positive change in my life every couple of months. Most are lifestyle/physical health changes. Sometimes I like to change it up though and try to apply my changes more inward and focus on myself and my outlook. Since my son’s diagnosis I have developed a deep interest in natural healthcare, essential oils, and home remedies. We have had a lot of success with some of the things we’ve tried so I am happy to share our experiences with you. We definitely aren’t 100% “crunchy” granola peeps but we certainly feel that some simple changes have added a lot more balance to our lives. I’m simply on a constant journey to try to be a better, kinder, healthier person who makes good use of their time on this planet.

I’ve been very involved in the autism community for several years, both in my local area and on a global level with my website. I have held and organized highly successful fundraisers for local groups that resulted in the purchase of several iPads for children who have Autism. I’ve done administrative assistant/graphic design work for a local autism group as well as volunteering at our local autism walk and other autism fundraisers whenever I can. Last year we were invited by Ally from The Crumb Diaries to participate in a campaign from an amazing group called Paper Clouds Apparel. Bug’s artwork was featured on t-shirts that helped raise money for Windrush Farms, a non-profit working horse farm of therapeutic challenge and reward for the disabled. Recently, I was also honored with an invitation, for the second year in a row, from WMNO to write and record an Autism awareness public service announcement that aired all month in April on three different radio stations. My sweet little Bug even added a line to one of the PSAs! My writing and advocacy work has also been mentioned on several notable websites and online publications.

I founded Rockin Mom’s World in 2010 as a creative outlet for my art, ideas, experiences, inspirations and life with autism. The site is constantly growing and changing with the seasons, and because of you, it has become something bigger than I could have ever imagined.

So thanks so much for stoppin’ by! I’m really happy that you found your way here and I thank you for letting me share with you. I hope you can find some inspiration for your own life somewhere in my pages :)

Hi, I wanted to send you an email but could not find a contact page, so I’ll just leave a comment!

First let me say, I have been reading your blog for a while and love every post. You are truly an inspiration to anyone who works with or lives with autism (I am one of those people :) ).

After listening to many many inspiring people, such as yourself, I started an organization called Autism Family Center. Our organization provides a multidisciplinary approach to treating autism (everything from ABA to art therapy) and we also provide support for families. On top of that, we’re FUN! We have movie nights, concerts, parent events at bars/clubs, fundraisers, wine night, and more.

We are located in the Chicagoland area (Winnetka, IL). So, if you or any of your readers are interested in coming to one of our events, getting involved, or even seeking services, please check us out at http://www.autismfamilycenter.com. You can also email me at laurenrabin@autismfamilycenter.com.

Don’t forget to look for us on facebook, twitter, and pinterest :P
