Bergamot

bergamot

Bergamot (Citrus bergamia) is a citrus fruit whose rind is used for extracting bergamot essential oil. It has a fresh, citrusy, uplifting smell that I absolutely LOVE. It’s one of the oils that is used in the Young Living oils blends ‘Joy’ & ‘Gentle Baby’. Use Bergamot diluted- one part essential oil-four parts of your choice of carrier oil)

Essential Oils For Your Hair

hairUntitledk

I’m always searching for natural or  “crunchy” hair care products and I am absolutely obsessed with diy and essential oils so it was a no brainer for me to do a little research on essential oils and what they can do for your hair. I think you’d be surprised to know that there is an essential oil for every hair type and condition and most of them are fairly inexpensive!

The condition of a person’s hair is affected by diet, health, and what is done to the hair (coloring, chlorine exposure, etc..) It only makes sense that a more natural approach is the best way to achieve “perfect hair”.

Use a few drops of essential oil with a carrier oil such as coconut or jojoba oil and saturate hair. For hair loss or dandruff, rub the essential oil/carrier oil mix into the scalp.

HAIR COLOR-

Most essential oils don’t change your hair color drastically but you can use them to enhance the current color you’re workin’ with.

Uses and Benefits of Cedarwood Oil

CEDARWOOD

Cedarwood oil is probably one of my favorite ‘weapons’  in my little essential oils arsenal. I bought it after finding it through my autism research and Dr. Terry Friedman’s ADHD study on Vetiver, Lavender, and Cedarwood oils. In the study, each oil had pretty impressive results and they all pair well together so they can all be used simultaneously for possibly even better results. It helps to calm my son and even his mood out.

Cedarwood oil benefits nearly every system in the body so it has made it’s way into my essential oil routine as well. Cedarwood is absolutely amazing for respiratory issues and I speak from experience! I have a lung that has collapsed in the past and I still have issues with it still from time to time. I have really noticed a difference since using the oil. I think it’s partly because it’s an expectorant so it helps to remove all that nasty crap that can build up in your respiratory system.

Cedarwood oil is great for skin conditions and disorders because it has astringent and antiseptic properties. It relaxes the skin as well as toning and cleansing it of impurities. It’s great for eczema, psoriasis, cellulite, acne, colds, coughs, and practically every other skin issue you can think of. It’s also antisborrhoeic which means it can normalize sweat gland secretion.

This oil is a well known nervine tonic that has the ability to relax the nervous system and offers sedative qualities from being inhaled.  Cedarwood clinical trial in Japan

Rosehip Seed Oil

Rosehip Seed

Rosehip seed oil is a dry, cold pressed oil from Chile that is chock full of vitamins, antioxidants and essential fatty acids that are known to correct dark spots, hydrate dry skin, and minimize fine lines and scars. It’s no surprise that Victoria Secret model Miranda Kerr divulged that Rosehip seed oil is the secret to her fabulously flawless glowing skin.

ess Essential oils can be used with a variety of techniques.

1. A diffuser- Oils are placed in a device with water that blows the oils directly into the air. I recommend this method.

2. You can use the oils ‘dry’ on a cotton ball and smell it when needed or keep it close by.

3. Steam- You can put the oils into a basin or bowl of steaming water. The oils attach to the steam molecules and rise. Place your head over the bowl with a towel over you and breath deeply. This method is very potent.

4. You can use the oils in a spray bottle with water.

5. You can apply the oils ‘neat’ which basically just means to apply to the skin. I always suggest using oils with a carrier oil so you avoid irritating your skin, Coconut oil is my favorite carrier but there are several others you can use. I use one to three drops of essential oil per teaspoon of carrier oil. 3 drops of essential oil is a 3% solution, 1 drop is a 1 % solution etc.. For very sensitive skin or for children I would cut it back to a .5% solution to start until you see how it works with your body. I typically tell people to start off by applying to the bottom of the feet. Here’s a helpful chart.

reflex-chart-of-foot

6. You can use essential oils in the bath. Put them in a carrier oil first.

7. You can apply the oils to the affected area with a carrier oil then apply a warm compress.

8. Or you can use them in a roller bottle or something similar.

eo-oil-bottle-roller-bottle

Different oils work better with different methods so I suggest googling the ones you are interested in. I recommend using each oil with caution and I ask that you educate yourself of the possible risks of each oil. ALWAYS keep essential oils away from heat sources and out of reach from children and pets.
