My DETOX MASTER CHEAT SHEET!

My DETOX MASTER CHEAT SHEET!

zz

Since receiving my son’s autism diagnosis and going through experiences with my own health issues, I have done years of research and reading on detoxing the body of harmful chemicals and toxins. All of my autism research has lead me to the undeniable fact that everything that goes into the body has an impact, whether it be a positive or a negative one. This cheat sheet is my own personal compilation of info I’ve used for myself and my family. I decided to publish it publicly after continually being asked what we have tried with our son. I am not a doctor or a nurse and I don’t offer medical advice. I am a mother with an autistic child and a deep interest in natural health care.

Okay then! Now that I’m all done with my disclaimer, I’ll just get right to it! First off,

BEGIN TO LIGHTEN YOUR TOXIN LOAD

I prefer to do everything slowly so there aren’t a lot of side effects to suffer through. A good way to start any detox is to begin eliminating alcohol, coffee, refined sugars, processed foods, cigarettes, and saturated fats, all of which act as toxins in the body and are obstacles to your healing process. You can then go a step further with this and limit or eliminate the following as well-

artificial colors and flavors

preservatives

artificial scents (think shampoos, deodorants, lotions, etc) The skin is NOT a barrier. It absorbs whatever you put on it and sends it straight into your body.

toxic household cleaning supplies

airborne toxins (paint, nail polish, pesticides, gasoline etc)

Vitamins and Epsom salt baths will make this whole process go A LOT more smoothly. Magnesium (epsom salt) helps to keep things in your body running more efficiently.

Dr. Rosemary Waring found that a majority of people on the autism spectrum have a deficiency in a key detoxification pathway.

Waring found that most people with autism conditions have a deficiency in a key detoxification pathway involved with sulfation. The enzyme involved is phenol sulfur-transferase (PST), which is essential to the process of breaking down and removing certain toxins from the body. Waring postulates that symptoms arise from an inadequate supply of usable sulfate ions, rather than from a deficiency of the metabolic enzyme itself’. -from wikipedia

So, in layman’s terms, Epsom Salt baths benefit people with autism because they help to raise the sulfate levels in the body which can assist in making the detoxification pathway flow properly again. Sulfate strengthens the walls of the digestive tract. Epsom salts can help a lot of other individuals as well. I encourage everyone to research the benefits of Epsom Salt!

Ask your doctor if it is safe for you to use Epsom Salt if you have diabetes, kidney disease, an eating disorder, or if you are on a low magnesium diet.

BUILD UP YOUR LIVER & OVERALL HEALTH

Build your liver and overall health by taking herbs such as-

dandelion root

burdock and milk thistle

green tea.

And eating fresh fruits and veggies such as-

avocados

broccoli

garlic

lemons

green leafy vegetables

Also, take plenty of vitamin C, which helps your body produce glutathione, a liver compound that scares away those nasty toxins.

What in the hell is oil pulling?

What in the hell is oil pulling?

I’m sure by now most of you have probably heard someone mention oil pulling or maybe you’ve read about it online. If you’re wondering ‘what the hell is oil pulling?’ then you’ve come to the right place, cupcake!

Oil pulling is an ancient Ayurveda practice that has recently gained a lot of popularity in the modern world and I, for one, am obsessed. The oils are said to pull toxins, fungus, bacteria, other organisms from the body leaving you healthier and feeling better altogether. I don’t know if there are any studies that have been done yet to support this but I have definitely noticed that my oral health has improved since I started. (Better breath, no more sensitivity, whiter teeth etc)
Oil pulling is supposed to not only leave the teeth, gums, and mouth healthier, it may also improve other conditions that are toxin, bacteria, or fungus related.

If you’re interested in trying it, pulling can be done with several different oils. Organic and unrefined is key when choosing a quality oil to use. I personally prefer cold pressed unrefined organic coconut oil. (Nutiva is my favorite brand.) Other oils such as sunflower and olive oil can also be used.

The actual practice of pulling is super simple.

1. You put the oil in your mouth
2. Swish it around for 15-20 minutes
3. Spit it out
4. Rinse your mouth out until you get all of the oil residue out. (The oil is now toxin/bacteria filled and swallowing it defeats the purpose.)

That’s it!! Easy peasy, jellybean!

It definitely takes some time to get used to swishing for that long but each time you do it it will get a little easier. Don’t get discouraged if you can’t do it for the full amount of time the first few times you pull, it’s totally normal for it to take time to build up to 15-20 minutes.

If you use coconut oil I recommend that you melt it before hand. The consistency can be irritating until it melts if not. Also, be sure to spit it out in the trash and not in the sink or toilet. Coconut oil will re- harden if it gets cold.

Now go get ya some oil and get to pulling, ya’ll! Let me know what ya think!

Remedies for Cold Sores that actually work

Remedies for Cold Sores that actually work

I’ve been getting cold sores since I was 9 years old and now my son is unfortunately also showing the tell- tale signs. Luckily, after my years of torturous childhood experience and trial and error, these days I am much better prepared or the both of us! Actually, we rarely get them at all anymore!

First off, I think it’s important to point out that prevention will make your life a lot easier. If there’s no cold sore, there’s no problem! Here are some things that can cause those nasty blemishes to pop up-

Stress
Sunburn or over exposure to the sun
Windburn
Menstrual cycle
Contact with things that have been exposed by others with cold sores ( don’t share lipsticks, razors, drinks, utensils, etc)
Kissing someone who has a cold sore
Weakened Immune System (colds, flu, etc)

In my experience, I’m most likely to get them when I have two or more of the things listed above going on simultaneously. So for example, if it’s my time of month and I get a sunburn, I make sure to pump up the vitamins to try to avoid an outbreak.

I also want to point out that cold sores and genital herpes are NOT the same thing. I have heard so many ignorant people say that. It’s NOT true so don’t freak out, jellybean!! A cold sore is definitely not a reason to get yourself even more stressed. As I said before, stress will only make it worse, so go chill in the bath or listen to some music. Do whatever calms you down and takes you to your happy place!

Getting that little tingle?? Here’s what to do!

First, get a prescription for Acyclovir. It’s an anti viral medication that is prescribed regularly for cold sores. A cold sore is a virus so antiviral meds are your best bet and they will decrease the healing time a great deal.

Second, there is NO way to get rid of a cold sore overnight. You can avoid one if you catch it at the first tingle, but once it’s there, you have to let it run it’s course. BUT, you can speed up the process a great deal and also prevent it from spreading by taking an antiviral medication or by using several home remedies.

If the cold sore is already looking ‘mean’ I have to stress the importance of not picking at it or touching it. You can make a small pin prick in it to release liquid from it but anything more than that will just increase the healing time. Be sure to keep your face very clean and always use cotton swabs instead if your hands. Also, boil your toothbrush to disinfect it after you’ve had a cold sore.

The very best remedy out there, by far, is unrefined virgin organic coconut oil. It’s antiviral, antibacterial, antimicrobal, antifungal, etc, so it keeps everything clean and contained. Coconut oil is known to promote healing of the skin and it helps to decrease scarring, which makes it a perfect remedy for these pain in the butt blemishes. If you use it at the first tingle, you have a good chance of stopping it in it’s tracks!

Garlic is also an amazing natural remedy for cold sores! It’s antiviral abilities make it another great contender. Take a clove of garlic and cut it in half. Press it to produce a juice from the clove and rub the juice directly onto the cold sore.

Peppermint essential oil is another fabulous tool in my arsenal. It has strong antiviral properties and it does a great job penetrating the skin. It’s menthol qualities make for a nice distraction from the pain. Wet a cotton swab with water then apply a few drops of peppermint oil to it. Press gently on the cold sore for a few seconds. You can do this several times a day. Tea tree and frankincense oils are both great essential oils that can be used the same way as the peppermint oil.

Ice is one of the most simple remedies that comes to mind. It will help at any stage. If you apply it at the tingle stage sometimes you can even avoid a cold sore all together.

Whole Milk, Vanilla extract, L-Lysine, and Echinacea are also great home remedies!

Multi-Vitamins, diet, and water intake are also important to consider if you want to get rid of your blemish in a hurry. The cleaner your body is, the faster it can heal.

Good Luck and stay stress-free!

Autism Miracles! Why essential oils don’t suck.

Autism Miracles! Why essential oils don't suck.

Do you see this test?!
DO you see the CLEAR, LEGIBLE handwriting?

This is a PRE-test. These are words that Bug has NEVER seen before, never practiced before, never even thought of spelling before.
The only thing we have changed lately is, over the weekend we added 100% pure, therapeutic grade Vetiver and Lavender Essential Oils to our regimen.

eo-flower-pic2

That’s it!

We are seeing HUGE progress!! This is the very FIRST time EVER that he got an A+ on a pre-test.

I started researching Vetiver after stumbling across a study conducted in 2001 by Dr. Terry Friedman where essential oils were used to treat the symptoms of ADD and ADHD in 40 children ages 6-12. Twenty of the children were not diagnosed with ADD or ADHD and were used as a control group. Each of the other twenty children had a confirmed ADD or ADHD diagnosis. The inhalation of the oils proved to settle brainwaves back into normal patterns & improve the children’s scholastic performance.

The final results of the study were- Lavender oil increased performance by 53%, Cedarwood oil increased performance by 83%, and Vetiver oil increased performance by an amazing 100%!

kid.jpg

We are most DEFINITELY seeing similar results at our house!!

I have also been using the same oils on myself that I’m putting on Bug to see how they impact my system. I have a diagnosed anxiety disorder and I have already noticed I am MUCH less anxious and more calm. The vetiver and lavender make me drowsy and have been very helpful for sleep and stress relief. I apply the oils to the bottom of our feet with coconut oil as a carrier oil to prevent skin irritation. I have also used the vetiver on the back of my neck but it irritated Bug so we have stuck to the feet for application on him.

If you decide to try essential oils out I recommend buying an essential oils guide or book and investing in a cool mist diffuser. (You can find them on Amazon) Warming diffusers, light rings, and oil heaters compromise the health benefits of the oils. You do NOT want to warm them. I also recommend that you do a fair amount of research on the manufacturer and the purity of the oils you use.

I hope essential oils help you as much as they’ve helped us!!

We are all goin’ DETOX crazy..up in here, up in here!!

DETOX is the word of the week here at the rockin house, what what!  I am feelin fine and I wanna share the wealth! First i’ll start off by telling you what I’m using and then i’ll break it all down for ya! K? K!

Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth & Apple Cider Vinegar, that’s what’s up!

__________________________________________________________________________________

Diatomaceous earth (DE)

First off Diatomaceous Earth or DE is the naturally occurring fossilized remains of diatoms, a type of hard-shelled algae that is ground into a fine powder that looks very similar to flour. Yes, I am taking this internally. No, it’s not as freaky as it sounds!  It’s basically silica, or sand so it’s not really as bad as it sounds and like I said, it looks just like flour. In fact, you’ve probably already consumed some DE one time or another, it’s used in Bisquick as a thickening agent! The benefits of DE are never-ending, it works for people, pets, AND pest control! Here are some of the benefits-

  1. Sore joints and ligaments feel better
  2. Kills yeast
  3. Has been said to remove the poisons in your body from chemtrails, radiation, and may alleviate the effects of GMO’s
  4. Skin clears up (acne-age spots-psoriasis)
  5. Hair and nails are stronger and grow faster
  6. Stronger teeth and gums
  7. Healthier respiratory tract–less coughing
  8. Menopause has less symptoms
  9. Healthier urinary tract
  10. Kills Parasites
  11. Lowers blood pressure
  12. DE is a natural organic colon cleanser and detoxifier
  13. Osteoporosis, joints, and calcium
  14. Natural weight loss
  15. Has anti-inflammatory disinfecting, absorbing and odor binding effects
  16. Silica can help avoiding or alleviating Alzheimer’s disease by preventing the body from absorbing aluminum and may flush out aluminum from the tissues. Silica can stimulate the immune system
  17.  DE possesses antibacterial, anti-fungal and antiviral properties.
  18. Natural chelation and lessening of Candida
  19. Kills any bugs including bed bugs. It is sharp to small insects and it tears them up and dries it out then it kills them by absorbing the oils and fats from the cuticle of the insect’s exoskeleton
  20. Protects grains and dry goods

Use caution when using DE because you ARE NOT supposed to breathe it in and it is drying to the skin and eyes. Start out with a half a teaspoon. I suggest mixing it in applesauce but water or juice works fine as well. Mix it every couple of minutes if you put it in a beverage or it will settle to the bottom. After a few days you can move the quantity up. I take two heaping teaspoons a day. Also, you may experience some stomach pains because this is a detox, it has the potential to cause die-off.
